Belichick Cheated … Is Integrity Shot in the NFL?

Bill Belichick got caught spying with video cameras no less. (Read ESPN report.) It’s serious enough that he’s been fined $500,000 … and his team $250,000 and a number 1 draft pick. And he’s not denying anything or complaining about the severity of the penalty. That’s because he and the Patriots are getting off easy. The Patriots should forfeit last Sunday’s game. The cheating helped them win. All those sportscasters that are saying, “He’s still a genius who belongs in the Hall of Fame,” are just out of their minds. This kind of reasoning implies performance is more important than integrity. It’s far worse than taking steroids. The Patriots should forfeit every game they used the taping in … and return a Lombardi trophy or three.

Tony Dungy (no one more respected among NFL coaches) said only time will tell whether accusations of cheating will tarnish the public’s opinion of fellow head coach Belichick and that it’s “a really, sad day for the NFL.” (Read it here.) It’s got to tarnish it … all of it.

Mike Holmgren, no slouch himself, has suspected cheating and supports penalties (per an AP report).

This is almost as bad as gambling. We need to hear a repentant Belichick, during his season-long suspension.

Again, what a bunch of girls.

It’s too bad you don’t know anything about football. Here’s a lttle education for you [expletive deleted].

NFL rules state “no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches’ booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game.” They also say all video for coaching purposes must be shot from locations “enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead.”

Straight out of the NFL handbook. What does it mean? Video taping IS ALLOWED, but only in designated areas: Belichik’s man was in a nondesignated area. Every other team tapes for signals and formations from the booth. That’s Bill’s only crime: location. Stupid!
