You’ve Got to Love This

Cleveland Indians. No Yankees! Boston Red Sox. No Yankees! Cy Young candidate C.C. Sabathia. No Mariano Rivera! Cy Young candidate Josh Beckett. No Mariano Rivera! A game with the top two Cy Young candidates! A series that will be won by the Indians or Red Sox! And, best of all, no Yankees!

You have got to love this.

I love it! It’s so nice to see the Yankees (once again) be unable to buy a championship! And there is so much attention paid to the Yankees and other big-market teams that I hardly know the teams in the NLCS this year — at least now the lesser-known teams will get a chance to make a name for themselves and gain some recognition.

And it shows that baseball isn’t all about spending money and getting the big-name pitchers and home-run hitters. It’s refreshing to see some teams do well by playing defense and being well-rounded and doing the “little things” right.

Amen, Beppo, I agree with you 100%. I have a post in draft that pays homage to the four teams that are still playing. Baseball heaven.

What would be refreshing is an accounting of how the $100 million given by the Yankees in revenue sharing and “competitive balance tax” last year to other teams was spent. The envy and hatred campaign long ago exacted the money everyone else wanted, but what have they done with it? Also, the “attention” the Yankees get is excessive, I agree, but it’s not necessarily positive or insightful.

Some teams are using the money. Toronto has they just have not lucked out on who they spent it on.

The Marlins owner should have to sell the team. He doesn’t use any of the money.
I do not miss having the Yankees at home.
